Rocket Cake Decorations - How to Make a Rocket Cake

How to Decorate a Rocket Cake

It’s your kid’s birthday party - you’ve picked your rocket party theme , and now you're looking for cake decorating ideas. Don’t worry, we’re here to help you make a rocket cake from scratch, using our rocket-themed To the Moon and Back! Cake Kit.

Make the Cake

First, mix and bake the cake, using one of our Celebration Cake Kits – click here for detailed video instructions on how to assemble a cake. (This works on both 6-inch and 8-inch cakes!)

Color the Frosting

While your cake cools, color your remaining frosting purple using Color Kitchen’s blue and pink natural food coloring.

Roll and Cut Fondant Decorations

Roll out and cut fondant shapes using the star and rocket cutters from the rocket cake kit. You've got options! Prepare the rocket to use as the cake topper, or choose to use just the stars as the topper.

To make the topper, push 2 floral wires through the bottom.

Cut stars, and push floral wires through a few for the topper.

Frosting and Decorating the Cake

Frost the sides and top of the cake with purple buttercream, then dot with white buttercream. Use an offset spatula to swirl the frosting together. Stick on pre-cut fondant shapes, then stick in the topper. Enjoy!
