One of the best parts about cake decorating is putting your own unique stamp on the final design. Here are our 3 favorite ways to decorate our mermaid cake kit. Bonus! All of these techniques can be applied to any of our cake kits that have come with food coloring.
We love making shades of colors and blending them together. To do this, hydrate your food coloring with 1/2 teaspoon water. Add 1/2 cup frosting to make the darkest color. From that add a small amount to a new bowl with 1/2 cup white frosting to make a paler shade. You can repeat this for a third layer, or just use the remaining white frosting. Smooth and Clean
Nothing says professional like smooth, clean edges. To do this it helps to have a straight-sided bench scraper. Hold the scraper perpendicular to the cake
Swirls and Swoops
For this look, pile on the frosting and use your spatular or mini offset to make "C"-shapes in all different directions. This also looks great when you add a secondary color to the mix!
